It closed at Goldin around 9:30 PM CT on September 29, 2026, at a $900,000 hammer plus 22% buyer’s premium — $1,098,000 all-in, after 30 bids.
That makes it the second-most-expensive debut patch ever sold, $12,000 behind Paul Skenes’ $1.11M record from March 2025. And it obliterated Crow-Armstrong’s own card record: his previous best was $66,000. This sale was 16.6 times that.
Why debut patches matter.
The debut patch is a trophy asset by construction: a one-of-one from a player’s first MLB season, carrying a game-used patch connection to their debut, signed on-card, and graded at the premium tier. Crow-Armstrong’s stacked every layer — the single copy in existence, the debut connection, a PSA-DNA GEM MT 10 autograph, and a PSA GEM MT 10 grade — and the market priced each one.
Why it matters.
The hobby just paid a trophy price for a story that isn’t finished. Crow-Armstrong is 24, coming off a 45-home-run, 41-steal season — the seventh 40/40 season in baseball history and the first ever by a Cub. The market didn’t wait for the MVP vote; it priced the season in real time.
Debut patches have become the modern trophy asset — the one card from a player’s rookie year that can never be reprinted or re-graded into existence. Skenes proved the ceiling at $1.11M; PCA showed that the market can support another seven-figure debut patch outcome.
Note the discipline in the number: $1.098M, not $1.2M. The market paid up enormously for PCA while still leaving Skenes’ record intact. That’s a market thinking in tiers, not hype.
