Why it matters. Not a rookie. Not an autograph. A modern comic-book-style insert that sold for more than any Brady card in history outside his rookie autographs — and at the time, the all-time record for any Kaboom card in any sport (the previous mark was a Messi Gold Kaboom at $385,000). Two collectors in a bidding war set the price. The read: Brady’s market has grown up — genuinely scarce modern inserts now sit at the grail table alongside vintage rookies.

Why it matters. Lelands called it “the best Brady rookie card available to the public.” A month earlier, a lower-graded copy of this exact card sold for $1.32 million — itself a record. This copy nearly doubled it. Context: spring 2021 was the peak of the modern card boom — stimulus money, lockdown hobbyists, Brady fresh off a Super Bowl win with Tampa Bay. The anonymous buyer has never been named.

Why it matters. The highest trading-card sale in eBay’s history. Brady announced his first retirement days before the auction closed — and in the days around that announcement, Brady collectible sales on eBay spiked 198%. One bidder turned the moment into the record. Brady un-retired 40 days later. The price stood. The read: moments move markets, but only the truly scarce cards keep the gains.
