What happened.

September's sports card auction calendar produced ten sales above $600,000, led by Cooper Flagg's 2025 Topps Chrome Update debut patch autograph 1/1 at $8,040,000 via Fanatics on September 25. Dylan Harper's debut patch auto 1/1 ($2,880,000) and Shohei Ohtani's gold MLB Logoman auto 1/1 ($2,848,700) followed, with Ohtani's 2018 Bowman Chrome red refractor auto /5 ($2,440,000) and Kon Knueppel's debut patch auto 1/1 ($2,340,000) rounding out the top five.

The back half: Michael Jordan's 2003-04 Exquisite Number Pieces auto ($1,464,000, Goldin), Pete Crow-Armstrong's debut patch auto 1/1 ($1,098,000, Goldin), LeBron James' 2003-04 Exquisite Emblems auto /15 ($732,000, Goldin), Michael Jordan's 1995 UD SP auto ($625,250, Heritage), and a 1955 Topps Sandy Koufax PSA 9 ($604,736, Memory Lane).

Why it matters.

The debut patch is the story. Three of the top five — Flagg, Harper, Knueppel — are 2025 Topps Chrome Update debut patch autograph 1/1s, all sold at Fanatics on September 25. That's a product-design outcome as much as a player outcome: Topps engineered the debut patch to be the single defining card of a rookie year, and the market is pricing it exactly that way. More than half of the month's $23.1M top-ten total sits in three cards from one product line.

The rest of the list shows the market's range. Ohtani's Logoman was an unused redemption — the physical card doesn't exist yet, and the market paid $2.85M anyway. The 2003-04 Exquisite autos (Jordan, LeBron) continue to anchor the modern high end two decades after release. And the Koufax at $604,736 is the vintage signal: postwar blue-chip demand held its ground in a month dominated by one-of-ones.

Methodology

How these prices were verified.

All ten prices are verified all-in sale prices (including buyer's premium where auction houses report it) from Goldin, Fanatics Collect, Heritage, and Memory Lane, September 18–29, 2026. Rankings are by verified sale price, highest to lowest. Two entries show representative copies rather than the exact sold card (noted on the slides); the Ohtani Logoman was an unused redemption at time of sale. We report what sold, where, and for how much — not what the sales predict.
